2 – CORPORATE VOLUNTEERS, 17th MARCH

London Business School will send volunteers on 17th March. Probably 8-10 people per session, for two sessions (morning and afternoon). This will also overlap with a work day – and Southwark Council are kindly providing a large pile of leaf mulch to help protect the new planting. Suggestions of tasks for the day included:

  • hedging
  • mulching orchard
  • boxes around the girders to tidy
  • wiring
  • general trimming at the back of orchard

Any other suggestions let us know.

3 – NEW SOUTHWARK PLAN

Nursery Row Park has been put forward as a new SINC of Borough Importance (Site of Interest for Nature Conservation) which is great news and on the grounds of the diversity of flora and fauna. There is a meeting on Saturday 3rd Feb with Peter Wright about Southwark Plans. Luke Miller will report. For more information, join Nursery Row Park on Twitter. Support to the plans for the park can be made online by 27th February.

4 – MORECAMBE ST GARDEN

Local artist Sokari Douglas has made a grant application to develop a community garden in on Morecambe St Garden, including using as a temporary art display. The land, currently with several trees and a tomb, is next to Asolando Drive and owned by Riverside Housing Association.

Luke Miller will be meeting with her, and the group discussed that as this space is public her usage of it should somehow involve local community, including a discussion on what is actually placed on it.

5 – EVENT

Event is on 19th May. As usual, there will be birds of prey, clown, dog show, face painter, music (any suggestions?)

David suggested that Woodland Trust could send a rep.

6 – ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

A dog was attacked by another dog in January around 9pm. The ‘attacker’ was shot by police, the ‘attackee’ died of its wounds. This is very unfortunate and surprising.

7 – AOB

Next meeting: 26th February 7-8pm 67 Balfour Street SE17 1PL
